Job Description and Duties
Are you interested in joining a newly-created team charged with enforcing constitutional policing practices on behalf of the Attorney General and the State of California? The Police Practices Section (POL) is seeking an experienced and motivated Supervising Deputy Attorney General to join our new team within the California Department of Justice.
Attorneys in the Police Practices Section Public Rights Division handle complex, sensitive and difficult legal work of the Public Rights Division for the Attorney General. The Section will conduct a variety of different types of investigations, bring civil and potentially criminal actions, publish public reports regarding issues relating to constitutional policing in California, and support the Section's responsibilities for implementing Assembly Bill 1506, conduct and oversee pattern and practice investigations, enforcement judgments, and other law enforcement-related enactments and mandates
The Supervising Deputy Attorney General directs, reviews, and monitors the work of a team of subordinate attorneys, and also directs the work of analytical support staff; evaluates the performance of subordinate attorneys and support staff; provides training to subordinate attorneys and support staff; handles general administrative matters; interviews and selects, or actively participates in the interview and selection process for subordinate attorneys and support staff;
and personally performs the most difficult and complex legal work related to jury trials, bench trials, writs, appeals, and administrative hearings, which requires the highest level of independent judgment.

Working Conditions
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on DOJ's current telework policy. While DOJsupports telework, in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksite with minimalnotification if an urgent need arises.

* This position is located in the Division of Public Rights, Police Practices Section, and may be filled in Los Angeles, Sacramento, Oakland or San Francisco.
* The Deputy Attorney General classifications qualify for a "Hire Above Minimum" (HAM) salary (Hiring Above Minimum Policy).
The starting salary for each classification will be:
* Deputy Attorney General Supervisor (8 years): $14,655
New to State candidates in the DAG series will be hired at the starting HAM salary of the classifications.
