Responsibilities- Serve as a prime technical security architect within the Security Services Division, under the Chief Information Security Office (CISO) and Caltrans leadership, focusing on network security operations, technology and cloud architecture security design and services.
- Develop enterprise security standards to secure the enterprise network and cloud services architectures; provide direction and recommendations to respond to business and technical requirements.
- Provide leadership and expertise for security architecture of the enterprise network and cloud technology; oversee technical design and support for the Cal-ITP system and other Caltrans security systems; configure and operate firewalls, IPS, URL filtering, remote access, and security monitoring/logging equipment.
- Lead design, implementation, and deployment of network, applications, system resources, NAC, OT, and IoT security architectures; advise on strategic design decisions.
- Collaborate with CIM, Traffic Operations, and TMCs to enhance security controls and posture; oversee operational and maintenance duties of security resources.
- Guide IT professionals to securely design and integrate systems; provide expert guidance to improve Caltrans’ security posture and remediate identified risks and vulnerabilities to protect data per PCI DSS and other privacy requirements.

Examination Information: Evaluation of experience and education (E&E) against the class specification. Applicants must complete the State application accurately and fully.
Education Substitution: A master’s or doctorate may substitute for up to four years of general IT experience; a bachelor’s for up to three years; an associate’s for one year. When using education to meet qualifications, include 15 semester units (22.5 quarter units) in IT or related coursework.

- Provide examples of integrating cybersecurity controls into enterprise-scale systems with sensitive or regulated data; collaboration with data owners, legal/compliance, or third parties for security measures.
- Describe integrating cybersecurity into public cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP); security controls and architectures used to protect data and identity management.
- List professional experience for questions 1–3 (titles, duration, roles) and any relevant education or certifications (e.g., CISSP).
