Position: Health Professions Education Specialist 2

Overview

Job Summary The Health Professions Education Specialist 2 is a professional in the administration and management of medical education programs. The HPES 2 applies acquired job skills and knowledge of policies and procedures to complete substantive assignments or projects of moderate scope and complexity; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action to effectively administer the residency, fellowship and medical student program in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

The HPES 2 utilizes knowledge of medical education to analyze problems and issues of diverse scope and recommends solutions. HPES 2 is expected to formulate strategies to administer policies, processes, and resources in coordination with the program director. The HPES 2 applies acquired skills, process, and policy knowledge to support professional health education program learners, and coordinates program operations, which include teaching and learning activities, projects related to the program administration, program curriculum, learner scheduling, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, monitoring regulatory compliance, and supporting program accreditation.

The incumbent coordinates implementation of professional health educational activities, which may include program competencies, curriculum, and exams.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience or training
  • Program support experience in professional health education or similar areas
  • Proven experience working as part of a collaborative team
  • Solid work experience with complex scheduling
  • Office administration and management
  • Long-range planning
  • Skills to plan, organize, and direct multiple simultaneous compliance activities related to the residency, fellowship and medical student programs at the Medical Center and at affiliated hospital training sites
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively and diplomatically with people from diverse ethnic, economic and cultural backgrounds
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills to produce written documents and correspondences
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with all staff, faculty, residents, fellows, and others inside and outside our institution
  • Demonstrated analytical and investigative skills to elicit information with discretion to clarify inquiries and requests; to develop creative solutions to general problems; initiative to attempt unfamiliar projects and assignments; and to respond with flexibility to requests for assistance
  • Skills to analyze complex information or problems in an objective manner and derive logical conclusions to provide a sound basis for establishing priorities and actions
