Medical Assistant 2 (MA) Ophthalmology Clinic

Medical Assistants provide non‑licensed medical support to medical care providers in an outpatient setting. Incumbents room patients; set up equipment and instruments; independently perform, and/or assist providers with performing, exams and procedures, including administering injections. With proper provider authorization, they provide instructions, training and advice to patients; call in prescriptions; clean and calibrate equipment; clean and stock exam rooms; and provide proper documentation in patient chart.

Incumbents may also provide front‑office services on a routine or back‑up basis.

• American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
• Certificate of Completion from a Medical Assistant training program
• Minimum of two (2) years Medical Assistant experience
• Ability to pass the Safe To Practice pharmacology exam
• Ability to utilize relevant medical terminology
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Commitment to excellence in patient care as prescribed by relationship‑based care practices
• Accountability and professionalism
• Support for performance improvement and evidence‑based practice within scope of practice
• Basic understanding of technology and federal regulations pertaining to patient privacy
• Support unit leadership with additional tasks as assigned

• Ability to anticipate unit needs and follow through
• Maintain communication with multidisciplinary teams

• Experience using electronic medical records system
• Knowledge of medical terminology
