The main responsibility of an Independent Living Instructor is providing support and guidance to people with disabilities. We help with ADLs, or the activities of daily living, such as showering, bathing, toileting or feeding, with lower-functioning clients. With higher-functioning individuals, we teach daily living skills, such as cooking, cleaning, and shopping, or provide job readiness training. We also help other professionals, such as social workers or psychologists, who work with our clients.
We help clients to locate and apply for needed services or benefits, such as Medical or Social Security. We assist with administrative tasks, like filling out paperwork for client case files. We work full or part time during regular business hours. We assist our clients in their homes and in the community.
