The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is currently hiring for a PRRT Health Physicist within the Radiologic Health Branch (RHB).

About the Radiologic Health Branch at CDPH

The Radiologic Health Branch (RHB) is within the Division of Radiation Safety & Environmental Management. The Branch enforces laws and regulations designed to protect the public, radiation workers, and the environment. RHB provides public health functions associated with a radiation control program, including licensing of radioactive materials, registration of X‑ray machines, certification of users, inspection of facilities, investigation of incidents, and surveillance of radioactive contamination.

About the Role

This position supports CDPH’s mission and strategic plan by performing journey‑level duties in the Radioactive Materials Licensing (RML) Section for licensing the safe use of radioactive materials.

The Associate Health Physicist (AHP) is responsible for developing and applying pasión and health physics policies, procedures, regulations, and information technology integration, and coordinating and facilitating technical and non‑technical training utilizing specialized and advanced principles of radiation and health physics. The AHP applies these principles to review and perform complex radioactive materials license applications and Sealed Source and Device Registries in accordance with 10 CFR and 17 CCR.

The AHP prepares information on health physics and engineering regulatory standards to ensure the health and safety of workers, the public, and the environment, participates in or directs on‑site facility inspections, and attends in‑state and out‑of‑state training. The incumbent works under the direction of the Supervising Health Physicist (Sr. HP) in RML.

Telework Information

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework permitted is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change, consistent with CDPH’s Telework Program. Teleworkers must be California residents. Candidates outside California may be *=sic?
* interviewed but must have primary residency in California prior to appointment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in rescinding the job offer. Travel may be required; reimbursement is provided per regulations and contract provisions. Commute expenses to the designated headquarters office will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

  • Leads, coordinates, and participates in projects and initiatives related to complex and politically sensitive information notices, policies, procedures, and regulations concerning the acquisition, possession, use, decommissioning, and disposal of radioactive materials to ensure compliance withцё. California laws, federal guidelines, departmental practices, policies, and the California Administrative Procedures Act for adopting, amending, or repealing regulations, as necessary.
  • Leads, coordinates, and participates in projects and initiatives related to the RML Section technology improvements ? implementation by applying principles of radiation and health physics, and radiation control regulations.
  • Plans logistics and assists in the implementation of training events as necessary, including securing venues, vendor coordination and contracts, and related needs.
