Conveniently located in northern Sacramento, Heritage Oaks is a fully accredited, 125-bed acute psychiatric hospital offering a full range of individually tailored treatment services to adolescents, adults, and senior adults, including treatment for substance abuse and chemical dependency issues with drugs and alcohol.

The Recreational Therapist is responsible for planning and implementing activity services for assigned program, which involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients under the direction of a Program Manager.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for observation and application of sound judgment in patients' physical and mental condition/needs.
  • Observe and document changes in patients' appearance, behavior, and ability to work towards treatment plan goals.
  • Communicate changes in patient's condition to Charge Nurse or Program Manager.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in activity therapy, humanities, social work or related therapeutic discipline preferred; and a Certified Recreational Therapy Specialist (CTRS).

Experience:
Required (1) year of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and understanding of mental illness in an acute inpatient setting, preferred.

Licensure: Requires certification by state and/or national governing body in one of the following areas: art, recreation, or music therapy.

Additional Requirements: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Verbal De-escalation and Handle with Care training upon hire and within 30 days of employment. May be required to work overtime and flexible hours.
