Senior Physician Assistant – Kaiser Permanente
Location:
Sacramento, CA

Under the direction of a supervising physician, the Senior Physician Assistant provides high‑quality, efficient, team‑based patient‑focused care across office, hospital, ED, peri‑operative settings. Responsibilities may include patient management, diagnostics, therapeutics, first‑assist in surgery, on‑call facilitation, and mentoring junior physicians assistants. Work may involve evenings, weekends, and variable hours based on department needs.
Essential Responsibilities- Practice as part of a team under supervision of a supervising physician.
- Primary duties include:
- Examining patients, performing comprehensive physical examinations, compiling medical history.
- Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests (imaging, ECG, labs).
- Performing therapeutic procedures (injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, infection management).
- Developing and implementing patient management plans, documenting progress notes, ensuring continuity of care.
- Providing patient and family education on compliance, healthy habits, family planning, emotional issues.
- Facilitating admissions, transfers, discharges; first‑assist in surgeries; rounding on inpatients.
- Conduct admission evaluations and post‑operative care, including ordering, monitoring vital signs, lab results.
- Discharge coordination and documentation.
- Mentor less experienced physician assistants when required.
- Collaborate with supervisors, managers, and department members on performance improvement activities.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience as a physician assistant within the last five (5) years.
- Graduate from an ARC‑PA accredited physician assistant program.
- Physician Assistant License (California) required at hire.
- National Provider Identifier required at hire.
- Physician Assistant National Certificate required at hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Fluoroscopy permit required, or must be obtained within 18 months from hire (Orthopedics, Interventional Radiology, Radiation Oncology only).
- Must be able to work in a Labor‑Management Partnership environment.
- Experience and competency in performing specific tasks required by the department may be required.
- Advanced certification in specialty area.
- First‑assist required.
