Overview
Job Description and Duties: Under the direction of a Supervisor I, the Crime Analyst Supervisor (CAS) is the full supervisory level responsible for the supervision and administration of the Eligibility Clearance Unit (ECU). The CAS analyzes criminal history and other firearms eligibility records to determine eligibility of persons to own or possess firearms and/or ammunition. The CAS ensures operations involving firearm and/or ammunition eligibility are completed accurately and in a timely manner within legislatively mandated time frames.
The CAS identifies, recommends, and implements changes to procedures to increase efficiency; acts as a section liaison with other programs/units within the Department and with external clients to resolve problems with criminal history and other firearms eligibility records; and performs supervisory duties related to employee hiring, training, development, and evaluation. The CAS must have thorough knowledge of California statutory code sections, the criminal justice system, and the laws and regulations governing eligibility to purchase or possess firearms and/or ammunition in California.
- Supervise and administer the Eligibility Clearance Unit (ECU).
- Assist ECU staff with analyzing criminal history and firearms eligibility records to determine eligibility for firearms and/or ammunition ownership or possession.
- Ensure firearm/ammunition eligibility operations are completed accurately and timely, within required time frames.
- Identify, recommend, and implement changes to existing procedures to increase efficiency.
- Act as a liaison with internal programs/units and external clients to resolve issues with records.
- Perform supervisory duties related to hiring, training, development, and evaluation of staff.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of California statutory code sections and related laws governing eligibility to purchase or possess firearms and/or ammunition.
