Job Description And Duties:
Under general supervision of the Business Taxes Administrator I, the Business Taxes Compliance Specialist (BTCS) performs complex compliance and enforcement activities, including conducting licensing inspections, conducting administrative seizures, gaining compliance of unlicensed businesses, and appearing in court proceedings for CDTFA tax programs including cigarette and tobacco, sales tax and cannabis. The BTCS prepares inspection and seizure reports, conducts field observations, assists in identifying interrelated fraud schemes, and performs related duties to ensure compliance with tax laws including licensing and reporting requirements.

Under the close supervision of the Business Taxes Administrator I, the Business Taxes Representative (BTR) assists in performing compliance activities including conducting licensing inspections, assisting with administrative seizures of cigarette and tobacco products and cannabis products, and gaining compliance of unlicensed businesses. The BTR prepares inspection documents and may contribute to seizure reports, conducts field observations, assists in identifying interrelated fraud schemes, and performs related duties to ensure compliance with tax laws including licensing and reporting requirements.

The Business Taxes Compliance Specialist and the Business Taxes Representative position is designated as a mobile worker position and will require an incumbent to spend the majority of their time (fifty percent or more) working at various locations other than their home or office in a single day (CMAP 1014). Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California.

All telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change.
