Job Title: Senior Accountant

Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Base pay range

$85.00/yr - $/yr

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented, mission-driven Senior Accountant to join our nonprofit organization. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP and nonprofit regulations, and supporting strategic financial planning. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical skills, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for supporting community impact through sound financial stewardship.

Accounting Operations & Reporting
  • Oversee general ledger maintenance and ensure accurate journal entries
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow)
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and investment accounts
  • Monitor cash flow and manage forecasting processes
  • Maintain and improve the chart of accounts and financial systems
Compliance & Controls
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, FASB, and IRS nonprofit regulations (501(c)(3), 501(c)(4))
  • Coordinate and support annual audits and tax filings (including Form 990)
  • Implement and monitor internal controls and financial policies

    Manage grant accounting and reporting, ensuring alignment with funding requirements
Budgeting & Strategic Support
  • Assist in developing and monitoring organizational and departmental budgets
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to leadership and program teams
  • Support strategic planning and decision-making with accurate financial data
Stakeholder Communication
  • Serve as a key point of contact for finance-related inquiries across departments
  • Train and support staff on financial procedures and systems
  • Present financial reports to leadership, board members, and external stakeholders
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and nonprofit compliance
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Quick Books, Sage Intacct, Net Suite) and Excel
  • Experience with grant management and audit coordination
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills
