Overview
Senior Associate, State & Local Income Tax - Asset Management at KPMG US. The role supports the State and Local Tax (SALT) practice with advanced knowledge in the alternative investment industry and real estate, across multi-state contexts.
Responsibilities- Participate in multi-state alternative investment firms (hedge funds, fund of funds, private equity, real estate) with state and local tax issues including compliance, advisory, planning, and controversies.
- Participate in multi-state companies with state and local tax controversies, including preparing clients for discussions with auditors, representing the client at hearings and appeal meetings, and preparing protests.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing subject matter expertise and industry knowledge in alternative investments.
- Review information presented on state income tax returns before, during, and after preparation.
- Build and manage client relationships, and supervise, mentor, and develop staff.
- Research and draft technical memoranda regarding income, franchise, and sales and use tax questions.
- A minimum of two years of experience performing tax research and preparing state income tax returns for pass-through and corporate entities; experience providing technical advice on multi-state tax issues.
- Bachelor's degree, J.D., LL.M. in Taxation, and/or Master's in Taxation (MST) from an accredited institution.
- Experience serving pass-through entities with solid knowledge of relevant state tax concepts.
- Ability to foster internal and client relationships.
- Ability and desire to perform in a high-energy team environment.
- Excellent writing, compliance, communication, and tax research skills.

Salary ranges by city: see California Salary Range: $66,300 - $136,500.
