Job Description And DutiesAll applicants will be considered; SROA/Surplus candidates will be given priority. The Tax Technician I position is an entry-level role that gains experience and skills for internal and external promotional opportunities. The Tax Technician I provides technical assistance in a contact center environment and learns/performs less difficult and complex technical tasks as described below.
- Responding to inquiries regarding business tax laws and regulations, CDTFA policies and procedures, and general business information received from CDTFA's toll-free number.
- Providing taxpayer assistance with registration, tax returns, tax payments, and guidance to CDTFA resources.
- Accessing and reviewing confidential taxpayer information.
- Performing account maintenance duties, reviewing and processing various CDTFA forms and/or taxpayer correspondence, and contacting taxpayers by phone to obtain current information.
- Utilizing an effective approach in handling difficult situations over the phone.
- Performing other job-related duties as required.
This limited term position may be extended up to twenty-four (24) months if workload is extended or become permanent if workload becomes permanent.
The incumbent is eligible to receive additional compensation each month for public contact through the telephone per Pay Differential #186.
Individuals bilingual in Spanish are strongly encouraged to apply and may be eligible for Pay Differential #014.
Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California. All telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change.
