Position OverviewAbout the Position:
This position is in Soil Design Section
C. Works under the direction of the Chief of Geotechnical Engineering Branch. Recruitment or Relocation incentive may be authorized if found in the best interest of the Government.
- Serve as Section Chief, responsible for the investigation and design of the geotechnical soil and design features of a wide variety of projects, including geotechnical and materials support to the dam safety and levee safety programs.
- Oversee the preparation of geotechnical design memoranda; design of soil and embankment features of earth and rockfill dams, levees, and channels; design of pavements and foundations for military construction projects; and the development of exploration, sampling, and testing programs in connection with the foregoing design, and soil foundations for all types of structures.
- Perform the more complex and critical assignments including developing criteria for highly sophisticated or controversial designs and oversee special seismic analysis for complicated embankment structures or foundations.
- Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets priorities and review completed work for accuracy and completeness.
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Other Requirements- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires registration as a professional engineer.
- May require lifting soil or rock samples weighing up to 50 lbs.

Specialized Experience – GS-13 – One year of specialized experience which includes preparing engineering studies, designs, construction plans and specifications for the planning, design and construction of water resources projects such as dam or its appurtenances, flood control channels, or levees; conducting in-house designs; reviewing Architect-Engineer (A-E) designs; providing construction support to field personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
