Job Description And DutiesUnder the direction of the Senior Engineering Geologist in the Outreach and Engagement Section of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Office (SGMO), in the Executive Division, the incumbent performs a wide variety of water resource engineering work to support the implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).
Support SGMO’s statewide groundwater education and training program which includes the development of videos, fact sheets, interactive maps, and other materials that help the general public with complex hydrologic principles like aquifer characterization, groundwater and surface water interaction, seawater intrusion, and subsidence.
This position is eligible to participate in a hybrid telework schedule currently requiring a minimum of two days in the office per week. Participation in telework is subject to the State of California’s Department’s and SGMO’s policies and supervisor approval.
The Sustainable Groundwater Management Office (SGMO) leads and implements the Department’s roles identified in the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) and the Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) Regulations.

- Knowledge of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) and DWR’s roles and responsibilities implementing the Act; experience implementing regulatory programs or policies.
- Knowledge of methods to assess water supplies and demands; experience with technical reports, project management, and presenting findings.
- Knowledge of numerical modeling software such as C2VSim and mapping software like ArcGIS.
