Position: Associate Safety Engineer (M&T)

Overview

Cal/OSHA is seeking an Associate Safety Engineer (M&T) (ASE) to join the team at the Cal/OSHA Enforcement Mining and Tunneling Division (M&T).

Under the general direction of the Senior Safety Engineer (Mining and Tunneling) with the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), Division of Occupational Safety and Health, Enforcement Branch-Mining and Tunneling, the Associate Safety Engineer (M&T) is responsible for performing independently the full range of professional journey level safety engineering work in mining, tunneling and industrial functions related to the Cal/OSHA Program. The ASE conducts, including the most difficult, safety inspections, accident investigations, consultations, and journey level assignments, related to mining and tunneling throughout the State.

The ASE performs all work in accordance with DIR-DOSH policies, DOSH Compliance Policy and Procedure Manual, Directives, and Memorandums.

Responsibilities
  • Perform the full range of professional journey level safety engineering work in mining, tunneling and related industrial functions.
  • Conduct safety inspections, accident investigations, and safety consultations.

  • Work in accordance with DIR-DOSH policies, the DOSH Compliance Policy and Procedure Manual, Directives, and Memorandums.

Working Conditions

This job is located at:
Cal/OSHA Enforcement Mining and Tunneling District Office, 1750 Howe Avenue, Ste. 450, Sacramento, CA 95825. Some work will be in an office environment and other times at field sites with exposure to safety hazards. Working outdoors 8 hours or more per day in various weather conditions; sitting at a desk and computer for extended periods; moving, walking, standing on uneven terrain;

bending, kneeling, reaching; lifting up to 50 pounds; climbing stairs, ladders, and slopes; personal protective equipment use; travel within California and overnight travel may be required; functional vision required.

Must maintain a valid California Driver’s license and proof of car insurance. Must be capable of maintaining medical clearance to wear Respiratory Protective Equipment. Occupational safety experience in Mining and/or Tunnel Construction industries.
