ERM is hiring a Field Safety Observer in Rocklin, CA
. In this critical role you will engage with client and contractor team members in the field to facilitate safe work practices, embrace client safety culture expectations, and maintain compliance with the client’s Contractor Safety Program elements and other applicable safety regulations (e.g., Cal/OSHA). This full‑time (40 hrs/week) limited‑term position lasts three months, with potential for extension.
- Manage the receipt, review, and feedback for contractor safety related documents (e.g., Programmatic Safety Plans, Project Specific Safety Plans, Job Safety Analyses, Field Safety Observations).
- Inspect site activities during the kick‑off and implementation of medium and high‑risk scope activities.
- Perform Field Safety Observations as established by the frequency and level for each contractor and subcontractor in accordance with the SSSP/PSP.
- Provide on‑site occupational safety support to identify, prevent, and mitigate safety risks.
- Document and retain safety documents in accordance with client requirements.
- Take direction from client Supervisors and Management responsible for Contractor Safety.
- Lead and/or participate in safety incident investigations, root cause evaluations, etc.
- Assign and/or coordinate with team members to address corrective actions and communicate as appropriate to prevent repeat occurrences.
- Share safety information constructively and results‑oriented.
- Communicate safety trends and recommend corrective actions.
- Support compliance with applicable programs (respirator, hearing, ergonomics).
- Identify existing and predictable hazards in surroundings or working conditions that are unsanitary or dangerous.
- Apply training, knowledge, or experience related to the work to mitigate associated hazards.
- Use formal training to identify and mitigate hazards associated with specific high‑risk activities.
- Familiar with managing contractor safety for operations.
- Knowledge of Cal/OSHA safety regulations and requirements.
- Initiate and/or participate in safety kick‑off, periodic or daily safety meetings with contractors.
- Function as a Subject Matter Expert on Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances, including DOT, EPA, OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and CPUC.
- Deliver training to support communication of established processes or procedure requirements to stakeholders.
- Serve as a resource for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the client company‑wide initiatives.
- Utilize safety trend analysis to identify and mitigate gaps, introduce innovative solutions, and communicate improvement opportunities.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical safety with a preference in the construction or utility industries.
- OSHA 30‑hour certification required.
- High School Diploma required.
- CHST, CSP, ASP, or other safety certifications are highly desired.
- Physical demands: standing and/or walking for long hours on uneven and steep terrain; possible variable weather conditions.
- Comfortable working in remote/rural areas.
- Valid Driver’s License and a personal vehicle.
- Demonstrated ability to provide detailed regulatory interpretation of federal and state OSHA regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
For the Safety Consultant, the annual base pay ranges from $80,691 to $97,410 (approximately $38.79‑$46.83 per hour). This role is limited‑term and non‑exempt. Pay within the range may vary based on education, qualifications, experience, skills, location, performance, travel requirements, and business needs. Note that bonus pay is not available for this position.
Benefits- Benefits eligibility is limited to regular employees scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week. Fixed‑term employees (including Flexforce) scheduled for 20 hours or more are eligible for a limited benefits package. Casual employees are not benefits eligible.
