Responsibilities
  • Conduct field investigations and failure analysis of commercial, residential and industrial mechanical systems and components, determining causes of mechanical failures, gas‑related fires and explosions, product liability, construction or design defects, HVAC, plumbing and piping systems, industrial machinery, boilers, hydraulics, pumps, compressors, cranes and/or motor vehicles.
  • Inspect losses and loss scenes at residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
  • Investigate and assess damages and evidence due to failures and determine the origin of failure for insurers and litigation support.
  • Analyze and document the failure analysis and causation of failures.
  • Examine and test evidence in a laboratory setting and research failure modes, products, installations and maintenance related to findings.
  • Collaborate with other experts to produce detailed reports outlining the origin and cause of losses and damages.
  • Serve as an expert witness in court and/or depositions.
  • Document and maintain billable hours on a time and expense basis for failure analysis and forensic engineering projects for clients.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license, minimum required for resident state; preference for multi‑state licensing and/or an active NCEES record.
  • Expert witness testimony experience is a plus.
