Stantec's Geotechnical practice has an immediate opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer. As a geotechnical professional, you will provide comprehensive services to Stantec clients from the analysis and design of dam and levee structures, shallow and deep foundation elements, navigation structures foundations, ground improvement design, seepage and stability analysis and various site developments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct geotechnical analyses, develop engineering calculation packages, and perform other duties under the direction of a Project Technical Lead or Project Manager.
  • Perform field work related to geotechnical explorations and/or construction activities.
  • Prepare and take responsibility for technical reports including data reports, baseline reports, field reports, technical memoranda, computation packages, feasibility reports, and design and evaluation reports.
  • Develop design drawings and specifications for various design levels (e.g. 30%, 60%, 90%, 100%).
  • Manage and lead other team members while working on projects and delegate specific tasks appropriately.
  • Assist in providing support services during construction, including submittal reviews, responses to information requests, and contract document clarifications.
  • Assist in developing new standards and specifications for the work elements and interact with other Stantec teams to complete design packages across North America.
  • Prepare and participate in engineering project proposals, change orders, client contact, presentations, and communication pertaining to specific projects.
  • Lead and mentor less experienced staff.
  • Manage projects and tasks with the assistance of 1 to 10 engineers.
Capabilities and Credentials
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Understanding of local and regional soils and soil interaction including various types of foundations and soil preparation.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, engineering drawings, and other similar material.

    Basic experience in Microsoft Office and ability to learn AutoCAD Civil3D, Geostudio Software Suite, Plaxis,OFT LPILE, and Open Ground.
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to understand task assignment and scheduling, budgeting, and efficient use of resources.
  • Understanding of state and federal regulations and ability to adapt to client specific requirements.
  • Provide support in permitting process of projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Willing to travel on an as-needed basis in support of civil and geotechnical investigations, construction, and inspections.
  • Excellent team building skills and willingness to work on multiple teams/disciplines with varying backgrounds.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering. Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
  • California professional engineer license preferred, or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience.
  • Experience working on federal contracts preferred.
