Job DescriptionCDM Smith is looking for a Mechanical Engineer 1 to join our team in 2026! You’ll be working with a dynamic team of industry‑leading engineers on a diverse portfolio of public, federal, and industrial projects. Under direct supervision, you will create engineering designs including HVAC systems master planning & studies; HVAC & plumbing systems; mechanical systems (cogeneration); sustainability/energy efficiency/renewable energy/green buildings, and more.
You will review draft designs for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, ensure firm policies and practices are followed, perform site reviews and studies to align designs with location specifications, update design requirements as necessary, and contribute to firm knowledge management by developing white papers and technical documentation. You will submit technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals and may create or collaborate on presentations for conferences.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Architectural, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline. 0 years of experience. Domestic or international travel may be required; frequency varies by project demands. Equivalent directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Skills and AbilitiesBasic knowledge of computer‑assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Basic knowledge of engineering principles of design. Knowledge of Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.). Good written and verbal communication skills.
