• Perform quality review and provide technical support to Geotechnical Design offices.
• Develop and update geotechnical design related standards, and guidelines for the Geotechnical Manual.
• Develop geotechnical design and analysis tools.
• Perform geotechnical investigation and engineering for projects.
• Work on projects, including planning, design, construction, and operation phases of the State Transportation System.
• Participate in Geotechnical Services (GS) technical teams and Division of Engineering Service’s technical committees.

• Eligibility determined by score on the Transportation Engineer (Civil) exam; must be on the state examination list.
• Must meet Minimum Qualifications as stated in the Classification Specification.
• Demonstrated coursework and experience in geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, retaining wall design, slope stability analysis, deep foundation design, geotechnical investigation, laboratory testing.
• For Range D: valid PE (Civil) license issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers required.

• Statement of Qualifications (SOQ), resume, and application are required.
• SOQ must include education, training, and experience; no more than 2 pages, single‑spaced, in 12‑point font.
• SOQ must not contain confidential information such as SSN, birth date, etc.
• For Range D, a valid PE license is required; for other ranges, a PE license is not required.
