The Northern California Drinking Water Market Sector Leader is a key leadership position within HDR’s growing California Water Business Group. This role provides an exciting opportunity to join an industry‑leading, 100% employee‑owned firm and to shape the future of drinking water solutions across Northern California.
Primary Responsibilities- Develop and drive a long‑range Drinking Water mission, vision, and strategy for HDR’s Nor Cal area.
- Lead HDR’s Drinking Water branding in Nor Cal by engaging in professional organizations allied to the drinking water market.
- Collaborate with technical and marketing staff to pursue new projects and take leadership roles in key pursuits.
- Support development and review of scopes of work, fee estimates, project risk identification, and project schedules.
- Coordinate staffing and recruiting plans for key hires as part of the Nor Cal leadership team.
- Develop and implement Water Business Group‑wide initiatives.
- Identify technical gaps and support talent management and recruiting efforts.
- Identify, develop, and implement Drinking Water initiatives for the Nor Cal marketplace.
- Participate in industry associations and serve as a company role‑model in business and community organizations.
- Develop relationships with industry counterparts in other consulting organizations.
- Promote the Drinking Water market in alignment with Client Managers.
- Be involved in marketing planning, proposals, and interviews for Drinking Water projects.
- Serve as Client Manager for selected key clients.
- Function as project manager on large or key projects.
- Assist with contract review on key projects to ensure risk management, proper staffing, quality reviews, and claim resolution.
- Other duties as assigned.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in water planning and/or engineering, with the majority in the market sector.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, planning, or a related field.
- If an Engineer, maintain licensure (PE).
- Experience in developing and managing strategic marketing programs for planning and/or engineering services.
- Experience managing a wide range of client relationships and program or project pursuits.
- Experience in staff development, including recruiting, career path, and professional growth.
- Experience with industry associations and maintaining a visible market profile.
- Ability to work cooperatively with Market Sector Directors, Business Class Directors, Regional Business Group Directors, Area Business Group Managers, Area Marketing Managers, and Area Managers.
