Develop an innovative applied research and extension education program supporting Integrated Pest Management across Sacramento, Yolo, and Solano Counties.
Focus on high‑priority pest control issues, including landscape pests (weeds, plant diseases, insects, vertebrates) and pests around structures (insects and commensal rodents). Engage with public agency staff, licensed pest management professionals, public health and pest control practitioners.
Responsibilities- Plan, manage, and evaluate applied research and extension programs; set measurable goals and track progress.
- Design and deliver educational workshops, short courses, field demonstrations, site visits, and individual consultations.
- Coordinate with local public agencies, pest management professional groups, UC IPM Program, and university centers to develop train‑the‑trainer programs.
- Develop and disseminate information through trade journals, fact sheets, quick tips, and other UC ANR publications.
- Publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals, conference proceedings, and popular science outlets.
- Build partnerships, manage teams, and collaborate with multidisciplinary stakeholders.
- Maintain office hours and conduct fieldwork across the three counties; travel flexibly as required.
- Master’s degree in pest management or a closely related field.
- Deep understanding of urban integrated pest management and experience designing and implementing impactful programs.
- Qualitative and experimental design expertise.
- Practical experience or training in structural and/or landscape pest management.
- Demonstrated project planning, team management, and applied research/outreach implementation.
- Must possess or obtain within one year a Qualified Pesticide Applicator Certificate or License before applying or supervising pesticide application.
- Valid California driver’s license and proof of liability/property damage insurance for travel.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.; not sponsoring visas.
- Extension education and outreach experience.
- Partnering with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience across multiple pest disciplines.
- Multilingual communication skills (plus).

Assistant Rank:
Step I ($85,600) to Step VI ($108,600). Salary determined by experience and qualifications.
