fortune excursions instructor role & responsibilities: fortune excursions instructors will be responsible for creating a nurturing, engaging, and safe environment for scholars ranging from elementary to middle school ages during after-school hours. This role requires someone with a passion for education and child development, coupled with strong organizational skills to plan and execute educational and enrichment activities. The instructor must also have excellent communication skills to interact effectively with scholars, parents, and school staff , and must be able to manage classroom behavior effectively.
what does a typical day look like for scholars?
- 8:00 - 8:15 am - breakfast served
- 8:15 - 8:30 am - morning connection/celebration/challenge (ccc)
- 8:30 - 9:15 am - novel studies
- 9:15 - 9:25 am - break
- 9:25 - 10:10 am - close reading
- 10:10 - 10:20 am - break
- 10:20 - 11:05 am - math problem solving
- 11:05 am - 12:00 pm - math foundations
- 12:00-12:15 pm - dismissal & excursions check-in
- 12:15-12:45 pm - scholar lunch (excursions scholars only)
- 12:45-5:00 pm enrichment activities through fortune excursions
- mandatory training
site-based training and prep june 13, 8:00-4:30 - led by site lead & academic lead
- a 5-week scholar academic program (session dates: june 16-july 18)
- daily scholar schedule from 8:00am – 5:00pm
key responsibilities for the fortune excursions instructor position include:
- arrive on time and stay until you are scheduled to leave
- developing and implementing enrichment activities: create and manage a variety of activities that are both fun and educational, catering to a diverse group of scholars
- ensuring scholar safety and wellbeing: maintain a safe environment, promptly addressing any health or safety concerns, and fostering an inclusive atmosphere that supports scholars’ emotional and social growth
- communication: maintain regular, open communication with parents and school staff regarding scholar progress and any concerns that may arise
- behavior management: implement strategies to manage group dynamics and resolve conflicts among scholars, ensuring a positive and conducive learning environment
- collaborate with the site lead for attendance, parent concerns, and scholar conduct
- must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- may be required to lift objects (25 pounds or less) and assist in setting up activities or materials
- coordinate and collaborate with site lead to ensure a smooth implementation of the summer school + fortune excursions program
- additional duties as assigned
unfortunately, we cannot accommodate special schedules due to outside obligations. You must be able to commit to working the entire summer program.
