Position TitlePosition Title: Lecturer Pool – Division of Criminal Justice
Position DetailsSpecific areas of expertise or need may vary from semester to semester. The department is currently seeking instruction to courses in introduction to criminal justice, law enforcement/investigations, justice administration, criminology theory and research methods, law and courts, corrections, offenders and offenses, community and justice system, and other related disciplines.
Duties of a part‑time lecturer include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are determined by the Department Chair in liaison with the College Dean.
Part‑time lecturers receive conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires from the applicant pool are made when instructional needs arise that cannot be met by existing faculty. Initial appointments are typically for one semester; occasional academic‑year appointments occur. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance and are often slated just prior to the semester’s start.
Rank and SalaryInitial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background, determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are listed in the university salary schedule (description omitted for brevity).
Required Qualifications- Master’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, social sciences, law, or related disciplines.
- Doctoral degree in criminal justice, criminology, social sciences, law, or related disciplines.
- Prior or current college‑level teaching experience.
- Unofficial transcript of highest degree.
- List of professional references with contact information.
