The Ethnic Studies Department has been an integral part of Sacramento State for more than 50 years, offering a degree‑granting interdisciplinary program. Concentrations include Asian American Studies, Chicanx/Latinx Studies, General Ethnic Studies, Native American Studies, Pan African Studies, and Teachers in Urban Settings or Teachers in Bilingual Education.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate courses in one of the department concentrations.
- Prepare instruction and course material, conduct grading, and hold office hours.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
- Maintain presence in a virtual or physical learning environment and adhere to course schedules and modality.
- Participate in department meetings and professional development activities as required.
Initial rank and remuneration are based on professional experience and education. New lecturers typically receive a Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the full‑time salary ranges for these ranks are documented below. A semester’s compensation consists of six payments.
For example, a Lecturer A assigned 3 units (minimum salary) would earn $5,507 × 3/15 = $1,101.40 per paycheck, resulting in $6,608.40 for the semester.
Required QualificationsM.A. in Ethnic Studies or a related discipline with Ethnic Studies training.
Preferred Qualifications- Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies or a related discipline with classroom experience.
- Teaching experience in person or online.
- Experience teaching course content in any Ethnic Studies concentration.
- Ability to teach up to 45–50 students per class.
- Interdisciplinary curriculum design skills.
- Capability to teach General Education (GE) courses, including GE Area F courses focused on the comparative discipline of Ethnic Studies (e.g., Ethn 11; Ethn 14; Ethn 30; Ethn 53; Ethn 70).
- Official or unofficial transcripts for the highest degree earned.
- Three references with contact information.
- A diversity statement demonstrating experience and commitment to working with a diverse student population and fostering inclusivity.
- Document listing the courses you are qualified to teach, based on the catalog (catalog).
