The UC Davis Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine is seeking a dynamic academic Clinical Pathologist/Clinical Chemist at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the Clinical (X) or the Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series. Formal leadership opportunities may be available for well-qualified candidates in this area. UC Davis Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, led by Chair Dr.
Florette Kimberly Hazard, is an innovative and growing department.
Clinical duties will be chiefly in clinical chemistry, including subspecialties such as special chemistry and toxicology. Other opportunities for the position may include immunology, protein electrophoresis, point-of-care testing and other disciplines in clinical pathology. Responsibilities will include lab test development, innovation, laboratory administration and quality assurance.
Teaching duties may include clinical, didactic, and small group teaching of house staff and medical students, interdisciplinary conferences to house staff and faculty, and curriculum development in subspecialty areas. Participation in the research mission of the institution is also expected, either as a collaborator or as the intellectual leader of clinically oriented research projects pertinent to the candidate's areas of expertise and subspecialty training, depending on academic series chosen for appointment.
General experience in other areas of clinical pathology may also be considered but is not required.
Faculty in the Clinical X series is expected to engage in professional competence and activity, teaching, research and creative work, and University/public service.
Faculty in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series are expected to engage in teaching, professional competence and activity, scholarly or creative activities, and University/public service.

Basic qualifications (required at time of application):
- At least one year of experience teaching medical students or house staff is recommended.
- MD, DO, PhD, or combined MD/PhD or DO/PhD is required.
- MD or DO must be board-eligible or certified in clinical pathology.
- The candidate must have qualifications to meet requirements for appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in one of the University of California's clinically intensive academic series (Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series).
- The ability to maintain a high level of service, work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment, exhibit excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain excellent relationships with medical and technical staff, trainees, and others is required.
Additional qualifications (required at time of start):
- Completion of sub-specialty fellowship training is required by July 1, 2026.
