Job SummaryThe Job Captain manages small projects through all phases of design and documentation. The role aids the Project Manager in budgeting, scheduling, and adherence to work plans. Responsibilities include coordinating with consultants, producing drawings, reviewing submittals, and maintaining project status.
Location & Work ArrangementSacramento, California. Hybrid (office/remote) with three days in the office and remote Mondays and Fridays.
Responsibilities- Coordinate projects with team members and consultants, resolving conflicts and discrepancies.
- Assist in developing project marketing and interview materials.
- Prepare complex plans, elevations, and details under supervision.
- Organize and produce working drawings for SD, DD, and CD phases.
- Coordinate with government agencies and utility companies for plan‑check approvals.
- Assist in material selection and construction detail development.
- Support preparation and editing of outline and master specifications.
- Participate in cost estimating and coordination.
- Review submittals, shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and prepare instruction bulletins.
- Document project status, minutes, and professional correspondence for self‑managed projects.
- Prepare documents required by governing agencies.
- Assist in proposals and additional service agreements.
- Estimate task hours and complete work within budget.
- Manage small projects: work plans, budgets, schedules, staffing, billing coordination.
- Participate in office design charrettes.
- Support design team, maintaining design intent throughout all phases.
- Provide regular status updates to supervisor.
- Collaborate with lead designer to resolve issues and integrate design intent into documentation.
- May participate in project marketing interviews.
- Support supervisor in managing staff.
- May supervise one to two staff on assigned projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Architectural degree from an accredited university or equivalent proficiency.
- At least five (5) years of experience in production and coordination across all phases of architectural practice.
- Ability to seek clarification on unclear assignments.
- Strong interpersonal skills for productive relationships with team members, consultants, and agencies.
- Professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to delegate assignments respectfully.
- Effective correspondence with consultants regarding Revit files and directives.
- Advanced proficiency in Revit, including 3D modeling in Rhino and Enscape and material research.
- Ability to manage Revit‑related issues on HMC’s platform.
- CAD knowledge: drawing setup, layers, dimensions, blocks, attributes, purge/audit/recover, backups, viewports.
- Understanding of architectural and construction industry terminology.
- Knowledge of deliverables for all project phases.
- Thorough understanding of applicable building codes for independent code analysis and compliance.
The salary range for this position is $65,591 - $95,254. The actual offered salary will vary based on qualifications, experience, skills, and internal compensation benchmarks. Salary does not include bonus, equity, paid time off, medical insurance, or other benefits.
