Reporting to the Chair of Pediatric Dentistry, the incumbent will be responsible for clinical teaching in pediatrics and Special Care, in outpatient and inpatient settings as part of an interdisciplinary team as well as didactic teaching to pre- and post-doctoral students as well as licensed dental and other health care providers. Full-Time, 3 days per week/40 weeks at the Sacramento Campus/PHCC.

- In the first two years of the program, provide clinical teaching to pre-doctoral dental students in the Hutto Patterson Pediatric Dental Clinic, Special Care Clinic and Community Outreach Clinics. The Special Care Clinic serves patients with moderate to severe medical, intellectual, developmental, and/or psychosocial conditions. Community partners serve underserved pediatric populations and at-risk individuals due to health, socioeconomic status, and/or disability.
- Teach students and residents from the UOP School of Pharmacy, Health Sciences and other Health Professions Students or in collaboration with community partners.
- Work as part of an interdisciplinary team and teach in inter-professional settings to dental students and students in other health professions within the scope of practice.
- Maintain and promote an environment of quality patient care and involve learners in clinical quality assessment (CQA) and clinical quality improvement (CQI).
- Teach in a variety of formats (lectures, seminars, clinic sessions); greater participation in didactic teaching expected after the initial two years.
- After the initial two years, develop programs related to oral health care and dental education for children and individuals with IDD.
- Over time, increase participation in service (committees and other school/university events).
- Participate in school functions during school hours and as directed by the school administration or department chair.
- Build a body of work toward promotion, including papers, original research, presentations, grant writing, and program development/implementation, in addition to teaching and service excellence.
- Assist in enhancing Interprofessional Education (IPE) and Practice (IPP) opportunities on, off, and across campuses, including extramural rotations, in-class seminars, IPE Committee involvement, and community engagement.
- Contribute to IPE/IPP curriculum, including awareness of pediatric and IDD populations, clinical efficiency, patient management, and collaboration with community partners to improve rotations.
- Evaluate models of oral healthcare delivery and reduce barriers to care; develop educational programs for dental and other health care providers.
- Collaborate with inter-professional health care teams to improve oral-systemic health; explore new extramural rotation sites or delivery models as part of end-of-program activities.
- Knowledge of general and pediatric dentistry principles; advanced course instruction; care of children and children with complex IDD medical needs; pediatric dental practice management principles.
- Ability to demonstrate a wide range of clinical skills, including treatment planning for patients with diverse dental and medical needs; communicate with patients, parents, guardians, and surrogates.
- Clinical and didactic instruction within a dental school.
- Experience with children with IDD; medically compromised children with IDD; using an integrated Electronic Health Record; collaboration within teams; providing oral rehabilitation under general anesthesia.
- DDS/DMD degree; completion of a residency in Pediatric Dentistry; current, active dentistry license; valid CPR/BLS/PALS certification.
