Position
Summary:

The Crisis Behavioral Specialist (CBS) is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the clients and providing leadership and assistance to staff and clients in resolving crisis situations. The Crisis Behavioral Specialist is also responsible for assisting the Residential Counselors in providing daily supervision of the clients. CBS’s wrap around the child at intake, assisting the child with transitions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Crisis Management

  • Provides child care and supervision for the clients awaiting placement.
  • Maintain continuous communication with Centralized Placement Support Unit (CPSU) staff to ensure that safe and effective supervision of clients occurs at all times.
  • Wrap around the child upon arrival, assisting the child with transitions.
  • Check in with the children frequently to prevent crisis situations. After an incident has occurred, follow-up and process with the child to prevent further crisis situations and complete any necessary documentation.
  • Remain with staff and clients during a crisis situation until resident returns to their baseline behavior pattern, and properly document the incident.
  • Assist clients in de-escalating after a crisis situation and by processing the incident to help them return to their baseline behavior pattern.
  • Provide leadership and assistance to staff and clients in resolving crisis situations.
  • Analyze crisis situations to determine the cause of the problem and possible ways to prevent the situation in the future. Discuss situation analysis with staff and supervisors as needed.
  • Develop and implement an Action Plan for children displaying high risk behaviors.

Leadership

  • Model, Coach and Provide reinforcement to CPSU Team.
  • Provide a cohesive team environment to role model a solution focused approach when addressing concerns.

Milieu Management

  • Responsible for identifying and creating a favorable group climate in which a youth’s safety and a strength-based approach are of primary concerns.
  • Set clear boundaries, supporting, encouraging, and giving verbal praise and acknowledgment to youth for positive actions and decisions to help build self-esteem, age appropriateinterpersonal skills, positive thinking, problem solving, proper language, coping skills, respect for others and self and brainstorming alternative, appropriate behaviors, etc.
  • Intervene in crisis situations as learned in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) to ensure the safety of youth and staff.
  • Develop short term-behavior based contracts with youth who are struggling with placement decisions or lack of placement options/availability.

Other Duties

  • Must be familiar with, and have the ability to carry out, all emergency/disaster plans.
  • Attend team meetings to facilitate the development of placement plans, as needed, for each child, providing documentation as necessary.
  • Ensure accurate recording of worked hours and notify a supervisor of any discrepancies in a timely manner and in accordance with agency guidelines.
  • Responsible for being an informed and supportive team member
  • Responsible for critical observations and objective recording of youth’s behavior for team use.
  • Complete written documentation per program requirements, and in compliance with agency policy
  • Accountable for reporting building and equipment damage and/or unsafe conditions and initiate action to correct any unsafe conditions
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:
