Join our Receiving and Data Storage Section as a Clerical Support team member (Tax Program Assistant). Under the supervision of a Tax Program Supervisor, you’ll be an essential part of our operations, ensuring accurate processing and routing of tax and non-tax documents. This is a great opportunity to start your career in public service and gain valuable experience in a professional, supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities- Open and sort incoming mail and documents into designated bins.
- Review and route correspondence to the appropriate section.
- Perform quality checks on remittance and non-remittance returns for accuracy.
- Use computer systems (IPACS, TPF, CM) to process payments and update records.
- Assist with training, participate in special projects, and support other sections as needed.
- Work flexible shifts during peak periods.
- Lift and move trays of mail (10–15 lbs.), boxes of returns (25–45 lbs.), and blocks of returns (5–9 lbs.).
- Transport cages of mail (up to 2,000 lbs.) and carts of returns (45–135 lbs.).
- Operate minor equipment.
- Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Perform repetitive wrist, arm, and shoulder movements.
- Work at a computer for prolonged periods.

Salary Range C: $3,899.00 - $4,880.00
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Salary Range B: $3,480.00 - $4,357.00

Desirable Qualifications- In-depth knowledge of Franchise Tax Board (FTB) operations, including processing Personal Income Tax, Business Entities, and Non-Tax forms.
- Experience in mailroom operations, including opening, sorting, and distributing mail accurately and efficiently.
- General clerical office skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, reliability, and discretion.
- Skilled in handling sensitive and confidential information with integrity.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to foster positive working relationships.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently with minimal supervision.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities while managing multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
- Ability to manage time well and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
