Auditor Appraisers perform a variety of duties related to the investigation, auditing and appraisal of personal property for tax assessment purposes. Incumbents must have detailed knowledge of professional auditing and accounting principles and techniques prior to appointment. Incumbents at Level I receive training in provisions of Revenue and Taxation Code and other laws and regulations governing the valuation of personal property for tax assessment purposes.
NOTE:The level at which initial appointments are made, and advancement from the lower to the higher level of this class (Level I to Level II), is at the discretion of the appointing authority providing the minimum qualifications and Special Requirements are met.
NOTE:9/80 and telework schedules may be available after completing probation.
NOTE:Recent graduates should reference the different cut-off dates to determine when you should apply. Documentation of your conferred degree must be submitted with your application. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
Minimum QualificationsAny combination of education, training, and experience likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities for this class. Typical ways include:
Auditor-Appraiser (Level I)Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with specialization in accounting.
Note:The California Board of Equalization defines a “specialization in accounting” as a bachelor’s degree with completed courses in one of the following patterns:
- 18 semester/quarter equivalent units in accounting and/or auditing. Business law and economic courses cannot contribute toward the 18 semester/quarter equivalent units; or
- 19 semester/quarter equivalent units, of which 16 units must be accounting and/or auditing courses. Three of the 19 units may be business law or economics
Either: 1. One year of experience performing the duties of an Auditor Appraiser (Level I) in Sacramento County service.
Or: 2. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with specialization in accounting AND one year of professional experience in accounting, personal property appraisal, or in the auditing of business records for the purpose of personal property tax assessment.
