Under general supervision, Accountants perform a wide variety of professional accounting, budgeting, and fiscal duties such as establishing and maintaining accounting records, participating in budget preparation and control, reviewing and analyzing accounting and financial transaction records, and preparing financial statements and reports. Incumbents at this level may provide work direction to clerical or technical staff.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
• A Bachelor's Degree, or higher, from an accredited college or university in Accounting or Business Administration with a concentration in Accountancy.
• Possession of a valid license as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) from the State of California Board of Accountancy may substitute for the required bachelor’s degree.
General Qualifications
Background/Criminal History concerns may be accessed for conditional offers. Driver’s License requirements are Class C or higher.
- Various professional accounting standards including G.A.A.S., G.A.P., G.A.G.A.S., and other regulatory bodies.
- Accounting procedures and application to diverse transactions.
- Financial statement preparation.
- Cost and revenue projecting and cost allocation methods.
- English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computer software.
- Prepare and analyze statistical and financial data.
- Analyze and recommend improvements to procedures and workflow.
- Interpret and apply federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
- Participate in government contract and budget preparation and monitoring.
- Organize and prioritize work efficiently to meet deadlines.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Develop and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships.
Cut‑off Dates
—Continuous filing exam cut‑offs at 5:00 PM on 12/15/25, 1/12/26, 2/23/26. Students in their last month before graduation should apply for the next available cut‑off after confirming conferred degree on transcripts.
