Candidate's starting salary will be between $20.91/hr.

Hiring range for Maintenance Technician I: $20.91 - $27.19/hr.

Hiring range for Maintenance Technician II: $22.19 - $28.84/hr.

Hiring range for Maintenance Technician III: $24.22 - $31.49/hr.

Under general supervision, performs skilled and semi-skilled work in performing a variety of tasks in the general construction, repairs, and maintenance of city streets, sidewalks, rights-of-ways, medians, alleys, curbs, and storm drains. Essential Job Functions
  • Completes street maintenance by:
    • Setting up and removing barricades and traffic cones to secure work areas.
    • Operating various heavy equipment.
    • Observing problematic cracks in streets.
    • Determining best way to complete repair.
    • Preparing crack seal machine, inserting tar into machine, heating hoses.
    • Blowing cracks with air to remove debris, rocks and dirt.
    • Utilizing crack seal machine to fill cracks with tar.
    • Documenting all work completed.
  • Repairs potholes and other damage to City’s streets by:
    • Operating motor vehicle, observing City’s roadways.
    • Identifying problematic roadway hazards.
    • Retrieving appropriate equipment and tools from truck.
    • Using a saw to cut around pothole in street.
    • Operating steel roller to roll base.
    • Tacking outer edges.
    • Filling pothole with concrete or asphalt mix to patch street damage.
    • Utilizing loader machinery to back drag.
    • Raking area to obtain smooth edges.
    • Maneuvering steel roller over area to compact mix.
    • Documenting work completed.
  • Maintains City’s concrete areas by:
    • Identifying problematic streets, alleys and sidewalk areas.
    • Breaking concrete area.
    • Setting forms for new concrete, filling with concrete mix, ensuring shape of concrete.
    • Operating various equipment.
    • Documenting all work completed.
  • Maintains City’s streets by:
    • Patrolling streets and related area for litter and debris.
    • Collecting debris from streets, greenbelts, right of ways, underpasses and overpasses within City’s limits.
    • Storing debris in vehicle, and operating equipment to clear streets from debris, transporting debris to collection facilities, maintaining log of materials collected.
    • Documenting actions and procedures as required.
  • Assists other departments as needed by:
    • Providing maintenance support to Parks and Recreation, Drainage and Water and Sewer.
    • Completing irrigation repair as necessary and signs, buttons and markings activities.
    • Working on special projects as assigned, and documenting all work completed.
    • Sets up and removes barricades and traffic cones to secure work areas.
    • Assists other public works divisions with maintenance and repair work as needed.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of materials, tools, equipment, safety hazards and precautions for assigned area.
  • Knowledge of construction and maintenance techniques and methods.
  • Knowledge of traffic control techniques and methods.
  • Knowledge of safe work methods and techniques.
  • Skill in utilizing a variety of tools and equipment for utility, street and park maintenance.
  • Skill in following written and oral instructions.
  • Skill in effective oral and written communication.
Maintenance Tech I
  • Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma/GED supplemented by one (1) year general labor experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
  • License, Certification or Other Special Requirements
  • Possess a valid State of Texas Driver License at time of hire.
  • NOTE:

    Employees hired to work in the Public Works Department will be required to obtain a Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class B or higher within twelve (12) months of hire in order to continue employment.
  • NOTE:

    All certifications and licenses must be current at time of application and must be maintained as a condition of employment.

  • Required Education and Experience
