PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To effectively and continuously monitor from the identified systems rooms/blasting control room the running status of equipment and alarms by means of a SCADA system.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 with (Mathematics and Physical Science) or NQF 4 is essential.
- 3 years experience as an Electrical Serviceman is essential.
- Centralised Blasting System Co-Ordinator experience is desirable.
COMPETENCIES:
- Demonstrate understanding of the importance of safe and efficient blasting process processes in an underground hard rock environment.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety.
- Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in the workplace.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the Platinum Safety Act, regulations and definitions.
- Demonstrate an understanding of legal terms and requirements related to rockbreaking operations.
- Demonstrate an awareness of customer service.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Records events on log sheets as well as to communicate events to relevant personnel as per blasting procedure.
- Forefronts the running status of equipment on the SCADA system prior to the initiating of the blast during the preparation while crew still underground.
- Monitors stopes on the shaft that they are appointed for in terms of fault finding on the SCAQDA in the blasting room.
- Assist the engineering and the mining personnel during fault finding and fixing of the fault on the problem areas on their respective shafts.
- Records relevant events as per procedure as observed on the SCADA system or reported to them telephonically or by other means of communication.
- Immediately contacts the relevant personnel to report events or change in running status of the blasting system as per procedure.
- Updates the blasting system as required and monitor prior and post the blast.
- Compiles and submits a full report at the end of the blasting cycle for sign off.
- Ensures that the blasting system is left in a safe condition prior to the entrance by the next shift, should there be any deficiencies observed the blasting co-ordinator shall liaise with the responsible shift supervisor of the next shift.
- Ensure that the complied report for the day blast is submitted to the office of the respective Mine Manager for signature and record keeping.
