PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To safely monitor and control the mine and metallurgical plant and processes from the control room.
SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY:- Identify and assess level of continuous risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
- Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
- Comply with SHEQ requirements (SHEQ Toolbox)
- Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status.
- Ensure Customer Satisfaction as specified.
Production:
- Monitor and control crushing, milling, classification, spirals, and chrome recovery circuits via SCADA
- Analyse trends and adjust process parameters to maintain:
- Throughput
- Recovery efficiency
- Plant stability
- Manage alarms and abnormal conditions
- Achieve daily and shift production targets
- Interpret SCADA signals and system interlocks
- Perform plant startup and shutdown sequences via SCADA
- Identify instrumentation faults and elevate appropriately.
- Prepare plant for maintenance activities
- Isolate plant sections (where applicable and required)
- Log breakdown notifications
- Support troubleshooting through data analysis
- Complete detailed shift reports
- Record plant downtime and reasons
- Maintain production and performance logs
- Capture process deviations and corrective actions
- Monitor plant alarms and respond according to emergency protocols
- Act as central communication point during emergencies
- Escalate abnormal conditions immediately
- Communication
- Maintain continuous communication with:
- Shift Supervisors
- Field Operators
- Engineering and Maintenance Teams
- Mine Control Room (where needed)
- Provide clear operational instructions based on SCADA data
- Coordinate plant stoppages and start-ups

Minimum Qualifications:
- Grade 12/N3 with mathematics and Physical Science
- Higher Certificate (NQF
5) or National Diploma (NQF
6) in Metallurgy / Chemical Engineering - 3 years relevant experience (preferably Chrome or Concentrator)
- Previous SCADA experience (Advantageous)
- Exposure to automated processing plants (Advantageous)
- Willingness to work shifts
- Ability to sit for extended periods in control room environment.
