Summary: The Tiered Supports Specialist works in the Student and Family Resources Department and supports schools on the implementation of tier 1 school-wide and classroom practices.

Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the Tiered Supports Coordinator(s), the Tiered Supports Specialist helps guide the implementation of preventive and responsive services within a tiered supports model, providing training to school personnel, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and overseeing the implementation of practices within a tiered supports framework.

    Note:

    This position is funded by state legislated funds through house bill 53-407. The funds are in place annually unless/until the legislature changes the law as outlined in the bill. It is an annual 185 day contract, 8-hour/day contract on the district office daily schedule. The position is eligible for 14 days of extra duty.
  • Provide training, coaching, and consultation to schools in areas including, but not limited to:
  • Positive behavior interventions and supports
  • Social-emotional learning
  • Supportive practices
  • Attendance practices
  • Trauma sensitive practices
  • Provide training, coaching, and consultation to classroom teachers and their use of the following practices in the classroom:
  • Classroom management strategies (e.g., CHAMPS)
  • Social-emotional learning
  • Supportive practices
  • Coordinate with school administrators on school-wide and classroom level support.
  • Coordinate with other district tiered supports team members on implementation of tiered supports.
  • Coordinate with members of the student and family resources department on activities associated with department programs and goals.
  • Coordinate with external stakeholders on funding, social-emotional learning, curriculum, and other practices.
  • Conduct evaluations of schools on implementation and impact of preventive and responsive tiered practices.
  • Support management of and reporting on grants.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship skills.
  • Strong presentation skills including the development and delivery of training to small and large groups.
  • Strong organizational and management skills.
  • Computer skills to include a working knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite as well as databases such as Encore and MIDAS (preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred in education.
  • Current Utah teaching or counselor license required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of education experience, classroom experience preferred.
  • Salary within district guidelines on Educator Salary Table.
