JOB SUMMARY

Cairo American College (CAC) is an international school seeking a qualified Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide school-based services to students from PreK–Grade 12 and in the EIC. The OT will assess and address the unique needs of each student, developing educationally relevant goals. Located in CAC’s Early Intervention Center, the OT will support students with fine motor, sensory regulation, functional skills, and school participation needs while collaborating with the multidisciplinary Student Support Team.

In-class support of a student may also be required when needed.

LIST OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conducts comprehensive developmental and functional assessments of motor, sensory, and adaptive skills using standardized and informal assessments to identify areas of concern.
  • Designs and implements evidence-based therapeutic interventions to promote fine motor skills, handwriting, sensory processing/regulation, adaptive/self-help skills, coordination, and classroom functioning.
  • Delivers direct OT services (therapeutic interventions) that are educationally relevant (pull-out individual, small-group, and in-class).
  • Maintains confidential documentation: progress notes, service logs, IEP reports, and equipment inventories.
  • Recommends accommodations, environmental modifications, sensory strategies, assistive technology to help students access the curriculum, and carry-over strategies for the school team.
  • Collaborates with EIC Director, principal, teachers, counselors, paraprofessionals, and learning support staff.
  • Participates in SST meetings and parent conferences.
  • Fosters an encouraging, safe, and inclusive environment to promote proactive communication of needs.
  • Educates families and caregivers on strategies to support the child’s development during daily routines.
  • Supports sensory-friendly spaces and school wide initiatives.
  • Uses age-appropriate and culturally sensitive approaches to support the child’s developmental goals.
  • Actively participates in training sessions and attends ongoing in-service training.
  • Adheres to ethical and legal standards of occupational therapy practice.
  • Stays current with research and advancements in early intervention and occupational therapy.
QUALIFICATIONS

All employees at CAC are expected to relate positively to and communicate effectively with students. All employees are expected to organize work efficiently and manage time effectively.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) or equivalent in other countries.
  • Current licensure/registration as an OT.
  • Knowledge of sensory integration, fine motor development, handwriting, and school-based OT.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

Preferred:

  • Experience in international or American curriculum schools.
  • Training in Handwriting Without Tears, Zones of Regulation, or sensory integration approaches.
  • Ability to provide staff professional development.
  • Experience working with kids with ASD and other neurodevelopmental needs.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is primarily done in an OT Gym located within the Early Intervention Center, but also at other locations around the CAC campus as needed. The OT works within the parameters of a school day and work week (Sunday-Thursday 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.).

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Clinical supervision is provided in a collaborative manner and by the Director of the Early Intervention Center on a biweekly basis and for those occasions when something out of the ordinary happens or a new project is undertaken.
