Job Title: GENERAL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
Department: Maintenance/ Custodial
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor
FLSA Status: This is a non-exempt, year-round position with salary placement in accordance with the District's Classified Salary Schedule. The position includes accrued vacation leave, one (1) sick day per month, and four (4) personal leave days annually.

The General Maintenance performs preventative maintenance, construction, and repair. The duties include assisting other Maintenance classifications in performing maintenance, construction, and repair duties on HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, alarm, and other systems. Additionally, the employee performs skilled carpentry, painting, welding, drywall, cabinetry, locksmith, grounds-keeping, and related repair and remodeling tasks. An employee in this class may be assigned to other maintenance duties in the District.
The principal duties are performed in a public building environment that may include working on rooftops, in crawl spaces, and inadverse weather conditions and hazards involving the use of power tools and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED equivalency;
- Valid Idaho driver's license.
- Building trade skills, including but not limited to, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and alarm systems, with emphasis on electrical systems, including but not limited to high- and low-voltage systems, telephone, computer, alarm, and related systems;
- Methods, materials, tools and standard practices regarding plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, drywall, concrete, cabinetry, and welding assignments related to interior and exterior building maintenance, repair, and remodeling;
- State, local, and other applicable building, safety, and health codes and regulations;
- Federal (OSHA) regulations and District policies regarding safe work practices relating to use of heavy equipment, power tools, ladders and power lifts, and repair and maintenance materials.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and diagrams;
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, alarm, and related operating systems;
- Work on multiple projects, set priorities, and allocate resources for project completion;
- Operate heavy equipment;
- Operate power equipment;
- Operate hand tools;
- Operate a motor vehicle;
- Operate a personal computer.
- Possession of a valid Idaho Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
- Insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier.
- Performs scheduled maintenance, repair, and installation work;
- Assists with maintenance, repair, and installation work on HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, alarm, and structural systems;
- Performs carpentry, painting, drywall, plumbing, cabinetry, concrete, and welding assignments;
- Repairs and maintains furniture and building fixtures, including lock and security systems and fire sprinkler and suppression systems;
- Maintains work orders, maintenance, and inspection records;
- Maintains and repairs tools and equipment;
- Monitors outside contract work for compliance and completion.
- Custodial work if needed.
- On call to respond to emergency situations;
- Performs snow removal duties, as needed;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person and discern warning and safety alarms such as vehicle backup alarms; comprehend written instructions and work orders; move over rough, uneven terrain and move through unfamiliar buildings and rooms; operate a motor vehicle, grounds-keeping and custodial equipment, heavy equipment, and to operate a variety of power and hand tools and to make adjustments to equipment;
lift or move 50 pounds regularly and 100 pounds occasionally; maneuver power cleaning equipment such as vacuums and scrubbers, stand for up to four hours, and move between work stations and job tasks on a single shift. Jobs in this class require performing repetitive hand movement in gripping, and hand/wrist/arm movements. Related job tasks may require, with or without reasonable accommodation, walking, standing, sitting, lifting, stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, crouching, pushing, grasping, and reaching;
working in confined spaces or on ladders; and working in an outdoor environment.
