Permanent| Full-time | Shifts (Days / Afternoons + On-Call Rotation)
Our client, a leading organisation within the manufacturing and circular economy sector, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their expanding engineering team in Runcorn. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong mechanical maintenance experience who wants to work with modern plant machinery in a fast-paced, continuously improving environment.
The RoleAs a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the
safe, reliable and efficient operation
of all mechanical plant equipment through both proactive and reactive maintenance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Carrying out
planned preventative maintenance (PPM)on mechanical systems and machinery - Responding to breakdowns, diagnosing faults and completing high-quality repairs
- Using
root cause analysis
and proven fault-finding techniques to solve mechanical issues - Disassembling, inspecting, repairing and rebuilding mechanical components including
pumps, motors, gearboxes, conveyors and rotating machinery - Reading mechanical drawings, manuals and technical documentation
- Keeping accurate maintenance logs including work completed, parts used and downtime records
- Supporting continuous improvement to reduce downtime and boost reliability
- Ensuring compliance with
Health & Safety procedures, risk assessments and isolation processes
The role follows a rotating shift pattern of days and afternoons, plus participation in an on-call schedule.
About YouTo be successful in this position, you will have:
Qualifications:- Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering or
- Level 3 Mechanical Engineering Qualification such as:
- NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Engineering Maintenance
- BTEC Level 3 Mechanical Engineering
- City & Guilds Level 3 Mechanical Maintenance
- HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering
- IOSH is desirable but not essential
- Proven experience as a
Mechanical Engineer / Maintenance Engineer / Mechanical Maintenance Technician - Strong mechanical bias with solid hands‑on ability
- Fault-finding experience across
mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems - Competence working with
rotating machinery
(motors, pumps, gearboxes) - Confident using workshop tools and machinery
- Strong understanding of preventative maintenance
- Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
