Diagnostic Radiographer
The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting two Band 5 Diagnostic Radiographers. This post would suit a newly-qualified radiographer or a third year student about to qualify. Closing date: 11 February 2026.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly radiology team. The Hillingdon Hospital Radiology Department is undergoing a transformation with the procurement of new equipment, including a GE EVO CT scanner, a new OPG machine with cone beam CT, and two plain film DR rooms. A state-of-the-art breast imaging unit has been built at Mount Vernon Hospital.
During your first two years with us you will consolidate and develop general radiographic skills and also acquire basic competencies in CT. Opportunities to train in MRI and US are open to all staff; these posts are awarded on merit, not experience.
The radiology department is committed to developing radiographers and we positively encourage and support extended roles and post-graduate training. Currently we have radiographers undertaking post-graduate certificates in ultrasound, a radiographer-led HSG and PICC line insertion service, and reporting radiographers providing musculoskeletal reporting.
Our services are provided on two sites at the Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospitals.
An interview date is yet to be confirmed.
Main duties of the jobYou will be expected to participate in the radiographer shift rota and the out-of-hours duties on both sites. Main duties include:
- To produce images of diagnostic quality that are properly identified with regard to patient’s name, side examined, date of examination, etc., in line with trust and departmental protocols.
- Be adequately trained in the safe and competent use of equipment prior to operating it.
- To be fully competent in the operation of all appropriate imaging equipment.
- Use knowledge and skill to adapt your radiographic technique for complicated cases.
- Be responsible for the welfare and comfort of patients in the department.
- Assist with the training and supervision of student radiographers, assistant practitioners and radiographic assistants.
- Participate in the department’s radiographer shift rota and out-of-hours rota to provide 24/7 radiology cover.
The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services, including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics, and maternity services. The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, a minor injuries unit, and outpatient clinics.
The safety and well-being of our patients and staff is paramount and we are making urgent improvements to address this—particularly in infection prevention and control. We are making progress by working with local GPs, charities, community services, academic partners, our local authority, neighbouring hospitals, and the wider North West London Integrated Care System, and by listening and working in partnership with our local population.
We are focused on ensuring that our hospitals provide high quality, safe, and compassionate care while driving forward with the building of the new Hillingdon Hospital.
We have over 3,500 staff members who care for nearly half a million people, with a vision to be an outstanding provider of healthcare through leading health and academic partnerships, transforming services to provide the best care where needed.
