About Know Better Do Better (KBDB)

Know Better Do Better (KBDB) is a startup social enterprise based in Royal Oak, Michigan. We are building a collaborative ecosystem where change‑makers learn from credible knowledge and from each other, then turn that learning into practical action that advances food security.

KBDB publishes public‑facing content through our platform and media, and we are launching paid membership in April 2026 to unlock deeper member experiences, structured dialogue, and member‑driven insight loops.

Responsibilities
1) Membership acquisition
  • Build and run the end‑to‑end membership pipeline, from first touch to paid member, using Hub Spot as the system of record.
  • Segment and prioritize outreach lists (for example: nonprofit operators, food bank leaders, funders, policy stakeholders, researchers, and community change‑makers).
  • Create repeatable outreach sequences and follow‑up discipline that feels human, not spammy.
  • Implement referral prompts and lightweight partner activation workflows that convert existing relationships into new members.
  • Produce a weekly founder‑ready snapshot of: new leads, conversions, activation, and key friction points.
2) Hub Spot administration
  • Own Hub Spot configuration: lifecycle stages, required properties, lists/segments, workflows, and dashboards.
  • Build automations for onboarding, activation prompts, renewal reminders, and win‑back sequences.
  • Maintain data hygiene and ensure reporting is clean enough to run the business without spreadsheets as the primary system.
  • Coordinate basic integrations or vendor support (website forms, tagging, payments, email sync) with clear requirements and QA.
3) Member onboarding, engagement, and retention
  • Design and execute a 7‑day onboarding path that moves new members to a clear first‑value moment.
  • Operate the engagement loop that keeps members coming back: prompts, content routing, and community nudges.
  • Support renewal readiness through ongoing value delivery and timely, respectful renewal communication.
  • Capture member feedback and translate it into improvements to onboarding, the site, and the membership experience.
4) Community dialogue, standards and facilitation
  • Operate KBDB’s member dialogue environment (planned as a member‑only subreddit or approved alternative).
  • Establish community guidelines and moderation practices that protect dignity, reduce stigma, and keep conversations productive.
  • Handle real‑world scenarios calmly: misinformation, heated debate, stigmatizing language, and conflict de‑escalation.
  • Maintain a visible cadence of discussion prompts tied to KBDB’s issues and learning agenda.
Requirements

We are hiring a builder‑operator. The expectation is that you will stand up the membership engine quickly, then run it with discipline.

Required experience and capabilities
  • Hands‑on experience building and running a membership, subscription, community, or lifecycle program (not just maintaining one).
  • Hub Spot administrator‑level ability: you can build workflows, dashboards, lists/segments, and enforce data hygiene.
  • Comfort running acquisition operations in a relationship‑driven organization: segmentation, outreach sequencing, follow‑up, and conversion tracking.
  • Clear operational writing: you can produce member‑facing messages and internal SOPs that are crisp and usable.
  • Comfort facilitating online member dialogue and enforcing norms with calm, dignity‑first communication.
  • Communicates with dignity‑first language, avoiding stigmatizing terms when discussing food insecurity or poverty.
  • Demonstrates curiosity over ideology, encouraging learning and inquiry rather than debate or partisan framing.
  • Engages members with respect for lived experience, recognizing the value of practitioners, community members, and those directly affected by food insecurity.
  • Maintains constructive dialogue across perspectives, helping nonprofit leaders, researchers, funders, and community change‑makers learn from one another.
  • Promotes engagement over passive participation, encouraging members to contribute insights, questions, and practical experience.
  • Focuses on progress over activity, helping conversations and member interactions lead to useful insights and action.
  • Models integrity over applause, prioritizing credible knowledge and honest discussion over popularity or social signaling.
  • Helps create a community environment where complex problems are explored thoughtfully, even when answers are uncertain or evolving.
Strong Preferences
  • Experience launching a paid membership or paid community from pre‑launch to stable renewals.
  • Experience with online communities (Reddit/subreddit, Slack, Circle, Discourse) and moderation playbooks.
  • Experience with cohort thinking, leading indicators, and simple experimentation to improve conversion and retention.
  • Experience coordinating vendors or light integrations with clear acceptance criteria and QA discipline.
