NOTE

This is a part-time position averaging 25–30 hours per week. The role follows a hybrid schedule, requiring on-site presence at our Royal Oak, Michigan office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with the option to work remotely on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounting Assistant provides accounting support by performing clerical and administrative tasks, including processing transactions, maintaining financial records, and assisting with reports. This role ensures accuracy and efficiency in financial operations while complying with company policies and accounting principles. This position specializes in handling accounts payable (AP).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES General Duties
  • Research and resolve accounting related discrepancies.
  • Communicate with vendors, clients, and internal departments regarding financial matters.
  • Acts as liaison between other accounting resources within the organization.
  • Assist team with other duties as necessary.
  • Prepare analysis of accounts, as required.
  • Gathering, sorting, and distribution of mail.
  • Review all vendor invoice requests for appropriate documentation.
  • Process vendor invoices while ensuring correct general ledger coding and proper approvers.
  • Remit payments by performing weekly check-runs and ACH uploads.
  • Respond to vendor inquiries and resolve any billing issues.
  • Request new vendor numbers when necessary.
  • Assist with monthly closings and accounting staff as necessary.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the accrual basis of accounting and an aptitude for detail work.
  • Must be well organized and be attentive to detail.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, or other web-based accounting systems preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 2-3 years’ accounts payable experience with at least 1 year experience with the accounting cycle as it relates to accounts payable, general ledger and financial statements.
TRAVEL

This position is partially remote and requires travel to the office at least three times per week for tasks that cannot be completed remotely. This position also requires visits to the post office if needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
