Position: Instructor Technician in Hairdressing - CS12057

Job Overview

The schedule is currently Monday to Wednesday with some flexibility. A job share arrangement can be considered. The appointed person will provide practical instruction at relevant industry standards and work closely with teaching staff to offer practical support, instruction, training and supervision to students, both individually and in groups. They will also prepare materials and maintain resources for practical tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop the skills of students within the subject area and provide a high standard of technical support.
  • Demonstrate practical skills, methods and techniques.
  • Assess student competence in practical skills and provide associated feedback.
  • Ensure students demonstrate the skills and behaviours required for successful completion of the qualification or course, and provide the knowledge that underpins the practical instruction.
  • Support training in the demonstration or explanation of required skills or behaviours.
  • Utilise prepared Scheme of Work to instruct and prepare sessions.
  • Complete relevant assessment paperwork, including questioning students to check understanding of practical tasks.
  • Maintain resources and prepare and set up physical materials and equipment for related activities.
  • Carry out maintenance on all tools and workshop equipment.
  • Order workshop equipment and materials in conjunction with the team.
  • Maintain the unit and equipment to current Health & Safety standards.
  • Attend team meetings, open events, college tasters and outside events as required.
  • Ensure all students are aware of the Health & Safety guidelines in the unit.
  • Attend college delivered ‘Teaching Essentials’ training.
Qualifications and Experience
  • GCSE Grade C or above in English and Mathematics, or Level 2 equivalent qualification.
  • Relevant subject qualification and practical experience.
  • Evidence of formal structured training in a relevant vocation.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
  • Working knowledge of information technology such as e‑mail, the internet and other software applications.
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Salary

This role is pro‑rata. The salary range is £11,359.43 – £12,125.81 per annum. For positions starting part‑way through the academic year, the annual salary will be pro‑rated to the remaining months.

Additional Responsibilities

During busy exam periods you may be asked to undertake exam invigilator duties. The College will provide the necessary training.
