GeneralPurpose
The Assistant Store Manager manages and supervises all assigned areas under the Store Manager and follows company policies regarding customers, associates, and merchandising. The Assistant Manager learns all phases of store operations and, in the absence of the Store Manager, leads the entire operation to ensure company standards and best practices are consistently met.
Essential Functions- General Operating Requirements
- Leads all company best practices and maximizes productivity by minimizing steps and touches.
- Assists in analyzing store reports to evaluate controllable expenses and overall performance.
- Communicates any variances from company standards to the Store Manager.
- Ensures proper scheduling of associates to meet business objectives.
- Ensures compliance with all state, local, and federal regulations.
- Accepts special assignments directed by leadership.
- Manages payroll administration, including daily punch edits, scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting.
- Organizational Development
- Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, and developing non‑exempt associates.
- Ensures compliance with Ross personnel policies and procedures.
- Handles associate relations issues by communicating incidents to the Store Manager or District Manager as needed.
- Expense Control
- Assists in managing and monitoring expenditures to stay within budget.
- Controls payroll hours as the primary controllable expense and adjusts to current business trends.
- Maintaining a Safe & Secure Environment
- Prioritizes safety and practices safe behaviors.
- Ensures associates understand and execute emergency operating procedures.
- Maintains adherence to company safety policies and ensures a safe environment for associates and customers.
- Facilitates monthly safety meetings.
- Customer Service
- Treats customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
- Demonstrates courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
- Executes customer service and merchandise presentation programs through training and supervision.
- Coaches retail associates in providing efficient and friendly service at registers, customer service desk, fitting rooms, sales floor, etc.
- Personal and Store Brand
- Represents and supports the company brand at all times.
- Maintains and models a professional appearance per the dress code.
- Manages the store to ensure a clean, organized, and shopper‑friendly environment.
- Maintains high housekeeping standards with help from maintenance personnel and associates.
- Merchandise Processing and In‑Store Marketing
- Ensures recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards through instruction, task assignment, and follow‑up.
- Ensures merchandise is presented and organized per company guidelines.
- Manages merchandise processing to the sales floor within the expected timeframe.
- Loss Prevention
- Trains associates on loss prevention awareness and store shortage goals.
- Demonstrates integrity and honesty in all interactions.
- Safeguards confidential information, cash, credit card data, and merchandise.
- Stores and executes the Loss Prevention Awareness Program, maintaining a strong customer service presence.
- Assists in leading the annual inventory process and maintaining inventory guidelines.
- Monitors the mark‑out‑of‑stock policy and ensures proper administration.
