Overview

This PRN position will work between 0-19 hours for a clinic with the regular hours of Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. This position has no weekends, calls, or major holidays. This position can be level 1, 2, or Sr based on candidate experience.

Texas Oncology is looking for a PRN Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team! This position will support the Round Rock location.

What

does the PRN Registered Nurse (RN) do?

Under minimal supervision, the Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, and developmental and age‑specific differences in the patient population including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide assessment and therapeutic management of patient/family needs. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
    • Assess health status by interviewing patient regarding current status and medical history.
    • Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and other instructional material.
    • Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
  • Prepare and administer therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician.
    • Administer all medications/blood products using correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time and technique.
    • Facilitate dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems and symptom management.
    • Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports and maintain central line catheter devices.
  • Facilitate clinical operations and patient care.
    • Manage patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy telephone line and record the information in the patient chart.
    • Triage patient phone calls as needed and document relevant information in the patient chart.
    • Assist patients in locating available community resources.
Qualifications
  • Level 1
    • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education; BSN preferred.
    • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    • 0‑3 years nursing experience, preferably at least one year in oncology/infusion.
  • Level 2 (in addition to Level 1 requirements)
    • 3‑5 years nursing experience including at least one year in oncology preferred.
