The Environmental Safety & Emergency Management Coordinator provides essential support to the environmental health and safety programs in their hospital(s). This position assists with the implementation and maintenance of safety initiatives, regulatory compliance, and emergency preparedness efforts. The coordinator collaborates with hospital leaders and clinical departments to promote and maintain a safe and compliant environment for staff, patients, and visitors.
Essential Functions OfThe Role
- Support the EC and EM programs at assigned hospitals to promote alignment with organizational priorities and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with the manager/director and hospital department leaders to monitor and improve safety outcomes.
- Assist with the Environment of Care (EC) and Life Safety (LS) portions of The Joint Commission survey process to ensure successful accreditation and licensing.
- Assist in identifying risks and implement corrective actions for the hospital’s fire safety programs to improve compliance with NFPA standards, focusing on fire prevention, life safety, and emergency evacuation systems, including audits and safety rounds as well as reporting findings appropriately.
- Support the implementation of safety programs focusing on OSHA compliance, risk management, and injury prevention as directed by the ECEM manager/director.
- Support the hospital’s emergency management programs, including disaster response, crisis management, evacuation protocols, and Command Center operations.
- Support and monitor environmental and life safety compliance in construction and renovation projects according to applicable code requirements such as Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) and infection control requirements, including regular construction permit meetings with appropriate departments to maintain a safe environment during construction projects.
- Assist with hazardous materials management, chemicals, and waste within the hospital environment according to OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard (HCS), as well as environmental guidelines. This includes testing, record‑keeping, training, and follow up tasks for environmental monitoring as directed.
- Facilitate and coordinate safety training programs for hospital staff to enhance awareness of EC and EM protocols, emergency procedures, and safety best practices.
- Experience working with hospital environment of care programs, general safety programs or emergency management programs.
- Proficiency in basic technology and computer skills including Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to interpret and communicate to others relevant state and federal rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication and establish and maintain effective working relationships within the facility, with local and regional health care officials, local, state, and federal agencies, and policy and advisory committees of the regional council and the general public.

- EDUCATION – Bachelor's or 4 years of work experience above the minimum qualification.
- EXPERIENCE – 1 Year of Experience.
- Experience in healthcare environments or in a safety, environment of care, or life safety role preferred.
