Job Summary And Qualifications

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist produces images in accordance with ARRT standards and NMTCB certification, and within the guidelines of the Bureau of Radiation Control, Hospital Policies and Procedures Manual and the Radioactive Materials License. The technologist is accountable to the Radiation Safety Officer for ensuring regulatory compliance in the department. Provides services using radioisotopes to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Demonstrates knowledge of human anatomy and function, patient care, positioning, nuclear medicine principles, radiation protection and specialized techniques.

Exercises professional judgment and maintains medical ethics.

  • Participates in providing patient-specific care standards as directed, following service excellence standards to ensure high patient satisfaction.
  • Consistently produces scans of optimal diagnostic quality for patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric.
  • Follows established imaging protocols and isotope dosage; adjusts for age or disease when appropriate.
  • Operates Nuclear Medicine cameras, computers and related equipment efficiently.
  • Completes high-quality scans in a timely manner, organizing and prioritizing workflow.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in scanning trauma, acute and challenging patients; modifies positioning and scanning factors as needed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of disease processes, images findings and communicates them to the Radiologist.
  • Performs radioactive therapy procedures according to Nuclear Medicine Policies and Procedures and the Radioactive Material License.
  • Employs techniques to minimize radiation exposure by adhering to the ALARA program.
  • Adheres to the radiation plan and maintains awareness of radiation safety practices.
  • Explains procedures to patients and family in understandable terms; clarifies misconceptions.
  • Maintains awareness of patient safety, privacy, confidentiality and dignity at all times.
Education And Experience
  • Graduate of an educational program in radiology accredited by JRCERT or graduate of an AMA-approved program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology, or a military training program of equivalent standards.
  • Associates Degree or higher in Radiologic Technology – preferred.
  • Two to three years of prior experience as a Radiologic Tech – preferred.
Licenses And Certificates
  • Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) or Registered Technologist with ARRT post-primary certification in Computed Tomography (ARRT NM).
