Overview

We are looking for someone who can work around 16 hours per week and a minimum of 2 days per month. This position can be a level 1, 2, or Sr based on candidate experience.

Texas Oncology is looking for a PRN Float Phlebotomist to join our team! This position will support the Round Rock North, Georgetown, Georgetown East, Harker Heights, Leander, Cedar Park, Marble Falls locations. What

does the Phlebotomist do?

Under direct supervision, the phlebotomist is responsible for collecting and processing specimens from patients, following quality assurance and safety policies and procedures. The role assists with patient flow as needed, properly identifies patients, draws blood samples, sends them to the laboratory for analysis, maintains collection areas and equipment, and performs record‑keeping duties. Work is performed within clearly defined standard operating procedures and/or scientific methods while adhering to quality guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • Performs phlebotomy and collects appropriate specimens from patients as ordered. Assures pre‑authorizations and completes appropriate consent (ABN) prior to collection of limited coverage tests.
  • Maintains proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program, including accessioning logs, equipment records, and checklists.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and ensures that all supplies are viable before use for patient collection.
  • Sends specimens to reference laboratories for any testing not performed in‑house.
  • Processes incoming orders for lab testing and processes in‑house and incoming reports.
  • Updates and files all daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs.
  • Properly identifies and bands patients for blood product transfusion. Processes properly labeled specimens according to local blood‑bank policy.
  • Operates designated laboratory equipment as directed and uses it effectively, skillfully, and efficiently.
  • Maintains equipment and work area as directed.
  • Performs waived lab testing under CLIA guidelines for personnel, recording proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrators, and reagents for waived lab tests.
  • Complies with regulatory agency standards, adheres to all OSHA compliance laws, and follows universal precaution procedures.
  • Properly disposes of hazardous materials and maintains a clean working environment.
  • Restocks the phlebotomy and laboratory area as needed and maintains confidentiality of all patient and medical staff information.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Phlebotomist position will have the following background and experience:

Level 1
  • Position is entry level and requires no experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Licensure from an accredited school of phlebotomy is recommended.
  • Current state licensure if applicable.
Level 2
  • Position requires three years of experience.
Level Sr
  • Position requires five or more years of experience.
