Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician 1, under the supervision and direction of a Pharmacist, provides pharmacy services, manages inventory, and delivers pharmaceutical care as assigned, in accordance with Texas State Board of Pharmacy regulations. Oncology and IV compounding experience is preferred.
Essential Functions OfThe Role
- Performs limited pharmacy services in stocking, preparation, labeling, dispensing, and delivery of medications.
- Assists patients and medical staff with nonjudgmental questions under direct supervision of a pharmacist preceptor.
- Answers incoming phone calls and directs callers to the appropriate service.
- Communicates promptly with team members when inventory levels are low, assists with drug purchasing and inventory control.
- Performs tasks related to pharmacy quality control, record management, inventory control, and order preparation for drugs.
- Enters medication orders from doctors’ order sheets/prescriptions, ensures correct product, dosage form, and charge quantity in accordance with formularies; manages billing data and medication charges/credits.
- Resolves discrepancies, troubleshoots and runs reports from the automated dispensing machine (ADM).
- Maintains equipment and work area, sterilizes glassware according to established procedures.
- Basic understanding of Pharmacy Care modalities, terminology, calculations, drug use, aseptic techniques, standards, and equipment.
- Knowledge of procedures and standards for labeling and dispensing prescription medications.
- Ability to read, write and follow instructions and flow chart protocols.
- Skill in sorting, checking, counting, and verifying numbers.
- Follows established safety, infection control, environmental, and isolation practices at all times.
- Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and staff.
- General computer skills: required software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand‑held scanning, email.

- Education:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. - Experience:
Less than 1 year of experience. - Certification/license/registration:
Pharmacy Technician (PHT) or Pharmacy Intern (RPH‑INT) license issued by the TX Board of Pharmacy.
